An anabantoid is a fish that breathes atmospheric oxygen (O2). They are refered to as labyrinth fishes, and have a labyrinth organ, which allows for atmospheric oxygen to be taken directly into the bloodstream. Inlcuded in this group are the:

Gouramies, Osphronemidae, e.g. Colisa lalia with the group Betta e.g. Betta splendens.

Climbing gouramies, Anabantidae, e.g. Anabas testudineus.

Kissing gouramies, Helostomatidae, e.g. Helostoma temminckii.
